X for X Discounts

"X for X" discounts are a type of promotion where the customer receives a discount or free item when they meet the determined purchasing requirements (i.e. BOGO). This type of discount will take the most expensive item into consideration and apply the discount to the second most expensive item in the cart. Discounts will not appear unless both the required item and discounted item are added to the cart. 

Example 1: Get 1 pancake order free when you purchase any 1 pancake orders [buy one, get one free]

Example 2: Get 50% of total wine purchase with the purchase of any two entrees

Implementation 

Navigate to Site Settings > Discounts > Add Discount 

Discount Type 

 

1. 1. Add Name of Discount
   2. Select the X for X discount type 

Required Items 

 

1. This section determines what items are required to be in the cart in order to apply the discount. Note that the required items will not be discounted but are rather the required item to trigger the discount.
2. Example: Buy 2 Combos, Get 1 Combo Free 
   1. Required Number of Items = 2 
   2. Include: Category = Pancakes 

Discounted Items 

 

1. This section will determine what items in the cart can be discounted if the required items are already in the cart. If the same item is a required item and a discounted item, the most expensive item will be used as the required item while the next most expensive item will be the discounted item.
2. Note: having a required item present is not sufficient for the discount to be applied. You need both a required item and an eligible discounted item present in the cart to properly apply the discount. 
3. Example: Buy 2 Combos, Get 1 Combo Free 
   1. Required Number of Items = 2 
   2. Include: Category = Combo
   3. Discounted Number of Items = 1 
   4. Include: Category = Combo 

Reduction Type 

 

 

1. Select Reduction Type that will be applied to the previously determined discounted item [Amount, Free or Percent] 
2. Indicate Reduction/Percentage Amount 
   1. Amount - flat price off of the discounted item 
   2. Percentage - percentage off of the discounted item 
   3. Free - amount n/a; total price of discounted item will be reduced

Begin by adding required item(s) to the cart: 

 

 

Select ‘Discount Order’ & Select Desired Discount: 

 

                            
                            

 

Once the appropriate discount is applied, you will notice that the second most expensive item was discounted and the full price of the item was reduced from the order total: 

 

                                      

Example Configurations

Buy any 1 item and receive a 1 Combo item (even if the initial item is free) 

Discount Type: X for X

Required Number of Items: 1

Include: Category = All 

Discounted Number of Items: 1 

Include: Category = Combos 

Reduction Type: Free 

 

POS View: 

Buy any 2 omelettes, receive 1 desert free 

Discount Type: X for X

Required Number of Items : 2

Include: Category = Omelette 

Discounted Number of Items = 1 

Include: Category = Desserts
