Menu Categories
Categories allow you to group menu items together for taxation, reporting, and routing purposes. If no category is set, the item cannot be accessed via the POS. Categories can be created at the site level, imported from another site (using the Import Category button), or pushed down to a site from the node.
In order to access Categories from your site, select the "Menu" section on the left hand side, then select "Categories" and then "Categories" will be the default tab. In the 5.16 release at the Node level, there will be a sub tab called Product Groups"

FIELD | DESCRIPTION |
NAME | Enter the name for the category |
MAIN | Main categories can be built here and chosen from a dropdown. This groups certain categories together for consolidation on some reports. This field does not exist at the Node level yet |
EID | Unique identifier used for enterprise management |
TAX RATE | Legacy Field. See this article to use the new taxation framework |

AGE RESTRICTION | An age restriction can be entered here that would then prompt on the kiosk if a user attempts to purchase an item in this category |
ALERT | If guest count is used on the POS, each guest will need an item from this category added to the cart, otherwise an alert will be displayed |
BARCODE PLU/SKU | Used for Category based barcodes. Barcodes contain PLU + sum of items with this category. |
Adding Age Restriction Message
Some food or drinks requires a certain age restriction for guests to purchase
Sites can create categories for such items and add age restrictions so the staff can verify the user’s age before fulfilling their order.
You can add an age restriction message for the category by selecting the Add Age Restriction tab and adding the message.
