KDS Settings (HQ)

KDS Settings are where the available configuration options for the KDS application exist. Every device that has the TRAY application must also have the KDS application on it, and that KDS application must be correctly configured to handle all things related to order routing/printing.

There are also devices that just have the KDS app such as kitchen display screens. The KDS Settings can either be accessed from TRAY HQ in the Device Settings or from the KDS app by pressing the ADMIN button in the top right corner and then pressing "Settings". This article will specifically cover the available configurations in TRAY HQ.

DESCRIPTION

KDS Screen Size

Determines grid sizes available on KDS

  • Preset values - 4x2, 5x2, 5x1
  • Custom - Set a custom column x row configuration. This can severely restrict the visibility of some orders if the grid is too large
  • List View - Displays each item in a single line, to fit maximum number of items on the screen at once

Print Buttons Behavior

Dictates what prints for the ‘bump to print’ functionality below. Options are to:

    • Print Order chit
    • Print (guest) Receipt

Bump to Print

Selecting one of the order states from the dropdown will make it so that when orders are bumped out of the selected state, they will then print from an order printer, if there is one configured

Wifi Recovery

Legacy Setting (N/A)

Beep with New Order

Dictates when, and how, the orders will beep when they come in

When an order comes into the new state, you can set it to beep while in 'new' state, until the order state changes (note: this will beep every 5 seconds) or you can set it to beep 1 time when a new order comes in.

Note: Your device has to have speakers or some sort of audio output (note: HDMI audio only works if the HDMI monitor is HDMI Arc compatible)

Show Bump Buttons

Dictates whether on the cell on KDS there is a bump button on the cell. Useful for touchscreen devices

Note: Typically if you have a bump bar, this is set to ‘off’ but this is not a requirement

Print Venue Address

This feature relates to the guest receipt (note: not order chit) but determines if the address configured on Sites Tab would print on the receipt

Print Modifiers

Determines if the order printer will print order modifiers or not

If set to off > when order prints from receipt printer, none of the modifiers will print

Show Option Group Name

When enabled, for every modifier that is displayed on your order chit, the order chit would also show the modifier group print name for the modifiers

Print Receipt Code

Generate the last 3 of the check ID at the top of a guest receipt to generate an order number to call out

Bar Code

This prints a bar code which represents the TRAY Check ID

QR Code

Digital receipt QR Code

Print Balance

If you have deposits on a party reservation, it will print the remainder of the balance owed

DESCRIPTION

Order Ahead

Native to the TRAY web ordering platform; if you want to view orders that are scheduled/in the future and that is only specific to TRAY online order ahead orders; shows all scheduled orders in a list

Tips On Cash Receipt

If you have tips enabled for cash payments, this will print them on the payment receipts

Item Grouping Mode

Dictates how the cell on the KDS groups items;

  • Group By Item - Each item will have its own cell
  • Group by Order - Groups items together by when they are fired; This is the recommended setting
  • Group by Check - Group the cell based on orders that have the same check ID; If a new item is added to the check, it will update the existing cell in the KDS, even if fired at a different time from other items on the check. For an order printer, this will reprint the entire check when you add another item to the check.

The selected setting will dictates how the order chit prints and also how the bump to print function will operate

Print Held Items

If you are using the hold for cook time configuration, then this setting will make it so that held orders will print.

Orders come in but might need to be delayed when firing to the kitchen based on respective cook time; orders will be kept in the held state until they meet their cook time and then they will fire.

If you want orders to come in and print all at once you will choose print held items > yes

Display Name If you are using the web ordering platform, this will dictate if the KDS will display the users Full Name, First Name or Short Name. Helpful for customer display boards using Tray’s ordering platform
Visible Order States/Names Held, New, Accepted and Ready (Completed) are the TRAY order states. These names can be customized on the KDS application. This does not update the order state names in HQ. Show States will allow you to dictate which states are visible on the device

Order Update Frequency

Legacy Setting. Do Not Enable

Cook Time Preset times in minutes, or a custom value can be set. See below
Custom Cook Time  Generalized cook/prep time for TRAY order ahead orders that you can set to override the item-level cook time. We recommend defaulting to the item-level cook time for more accurate implementation of cook time. This time also affects products with no cook time
Offline Support Enabling Offline Support for the KDS application. Both the KDS app and the POS app must have Offline Support enable
Split Screen  When split screen is turned on, if this device is shared between 2 active routing rules, it will split in half and display one routing theme on top, and one on the bottom.
Additional Settings

The Additional Settings is for any KDS JSON Configurations which have not yet been built into the KDS Settings. This screen is visible on the bottom of the KDS settings within the KDS app. Many of these configurations contain sensitive information, or are features that are still in development.
