Applying a Gift Card Payment

To apply a gift card payment, your gift card must first have a balance on it. If your card does not have enough balance, you will receive an error "insufficient funds" when attempting to apply the gift card payment. Please see the article on Balance Inquiries.

 

When it is time to close out your check with a gift card payment, you will proceed to the payment screen and select "Gift Card" as your payment option.

From there you will see the screen below prompting you to swipe the card on the MSR (Magnetic Strip Reader). The MSR is located on the right side of your POS screen. Do not swipe the gift cards through the credit card reader unless you are using a handheld tablet with a Moby 5500 Payment device.

If your card is not being read properly, or your swiper is not working you can enter the gift card manually. Do this by pressing the button in the image below.

From there you will be asked to enter the card number from the back of the card

Once you have either swiped the card, or entered it manually, you can then enter a tip (if applicable) by pressing the green "Tip" button next to the gift card payment. You can also print a receipt that has a tip line on it by pressing the "Print" button next to the gift card payment.

Once the payment is applied, you will also get a printed chit with the remaining balance of the gift card.

 

 

Gift cards through the MOBY 5500

When swiping gift cards through the Moby 5500 you will be prompted to complete the card number from the back of the card. Because the Moby is a Credit Card reader it is encrypted and therefore the info must be manually completed.
